A Visit From Margi and Dottie
Laura’s mom, Margi, and grandma, Dottie, visited for the first time this weekend. Although Margi had seen the apartment when she helped us to move in, she had diligently avoided seeing any pictures of it since then so that she could have the clearest picture of the transformation from its initial state: full of boxes. They arrived early in the afternoon on Friday and enjoyed a tour of the apartment and walk about the downtown mall while I was still at school. Fortunately, weekly research team meetings were postponed because of recruitment activities in the mechanical and aerospace engineering department, but the traffic getting home was horrendous. After an hour of waiting in traffic we made it back to the apartment with Mezzeh carry-out in hand. In the evening we enjoyed Prosecco, laughs, and catching up.
We started the next day with an early trip to King Family Vineyard. The weather wasn’t very agreeable but the wine was as good as ever. We enjoyed a tasting in their tasting room and then enjoyed the warmth of their community room until we were ready for lunch. When we got back to the apartment we enjoyed leftovers from the night before and relaxed in the apartment. We watched Midnight in Paris to match the soggy weather outside. As has become tradition when the Falconis visit, we had dinner at Hamilton’s on Main. This time around, Laura, Margi, and I each ordered cocktails, which were delicious, while Dottie got her signature sparkling wine. After a fun day of travels and drinks we retired to the apartment once more for family time before bed. In the morning, Laura’s mom and grandma returned home to Great Falls, VA, and we prepared ourselves for another week while already reminiscing on the fun weekend that was.
